Gavir 500mg Injection contains Ganciclovir. The main purpose of this antiviral drug is to treat and prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections.

Mechanism of Action:
By joining the viral DNA chain and preventing its replication, the synthetic nucleoside analogue ganciclovir prevents the manufacture of viral DNA. It works well against CMV and some other herpes viruses because of its activity.

- CMV Infections in Transplant Recipients
Dosage and Administration:
Usually given twice daily every 12 hours for 14–21 days at a dose of 5 mg/kg body weight. To lower the risk of toxicity, it should be given as an intravenous infusion over a minimum of one hour.
